Powell Pioneers Legion B baseballers scored identical 15-5 wins over Riverton’s B team on Tuesday in Powell.

Legion B coach Tyler England had high praise for his team, which suffered two lopsided losses at Billings Sunday.

“To bounce back from a rough weekend and only have two errors through both games was good to see, but I never doubted our defensive ability,” England said. “We had some mental or confidence issues on Sunday. If we can continue to take quality at bats and keep getting more confident on the defensive side of the ball, we’re going to play a lot of really good, fun baseball this summer.”

Race Degraffenreid led the Pioneer B’s at the plate in game one, going three for four.

“Ethan Welch had an at-bat that was a perfect example of the toughness we’ve been bringing to the plate,” England said. “He got behind 0-2 on two good pitches, then battled until he squared up the 10th pitch of the at-bat for a line drive single to left.”

Aiden Greenwald threw three innings of the opening game. Jacob Gibson finished the last two innings.

In game two, Ryan Cordes had three hits in four trips and drove in three runs.

“He’s been working really hard to make an adjustment to his swing, so it was nice to see him hit some balls hard,” England said.

Dalton Worstell started and pitched three strong innings. A combined effort from Nathan Feller, Welch and Cordes closed the door on Riverton.

Powell had 13 hits in the opener and 12 hits in the second game. The B team committed only one error in each game.

The Pioneers’ B team plays Sheridan in a Friday doubleheader at 4 and 6 p.m.
