PHS JV girls hoopsters fall to Cody Fillies

The Powell High School girls junior varsity basketball team kept pace with the Class 4A Cody Fillies for three quarters, but were undone by one particularly tough period.

In their final game before the Christmas break, the Panther JV fell 45-15 in Cody on Dec. 20.

“We were able to hang around with a very aggressive and talented Cody team for the first half. We trailed 16-6 at the break and had done a number of good things in the first half that we hadn’t converted to points,” said PHS JV coach Troy Hildebrand. “Unfortunately, the third quarter belonged to Cody as they outscored us 24-3 and put the game away. Cody shot the ball very well in that quarter and we struggled on both ends of the floor to find any type of rhythm.”

Powell then bounced back to win the final quarter by a score of 6 to 5.

Abi Urbach lead the Panthers offensively with six points. Addison Braten added four points, Paije Johnson and Sarah Dunkerley had two apiece and Rose Graft had one.

After taking a week off, the JV resumed practice on Monday and will return to action on Friday, when they’ll take on the Meeteetse Longhorns varsity team from Class 1A.
