PHS girls win fourth straight regional title

Four in a row.

The windy conditions did not hold back the Powell Panther girls’ track and field team from winning its fourth straight 3A West Regional track team title in Worland over the weekend — finishing nine points ahead of the hosts to claim the title.

Powell used its depth to propel the Panthers ahead of the competition, with only one individual victory and one relay victory coming on the weekend for the team.

Ine Kollstad was the lone Panther to win an event, claiming victory in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 1/2 inch.

The 4x800 relay ran away from the competition, as the team of Kinley Cooley, Kenna Jacobsen, Megan Jacobsen and Anna Bartholomew finished in a time of 10:23.98 — 34 seconds ahead of second place Lovell.

The triple jump was more of a difference maker besides Kollstad, with Waycee Harvey placing second (34-9 1/4), Sydney Spomer taking third (34-5) and Catelynn Floy placing eighth (31-8).

Harvey also placed second in the 400 meters (1:00.86); Kollstad placed second in the long jump (17-0 1/2) and Lauryn Bennett took second in the pole vault (9-6).

Additional third place finishes came from Katie O’Brien in the shot put (35-11); Cooley in the 3200 (12:41.02); Addy Thorington in the high jump (4-11) and Bartholomew in the 400 (1:02.31).

Powell also added several new qualifying marks during the meet, and will have a plethora of athletes heading to the state meet this week in Casper.

The Panthers and Warriors sat comfortably ahead of the rest of the field, with third place Pinedale earning 73.5 points over the two day event, far below Powell’s 169.

STATE MEET

The season will wrap up this weekend for the Panthers, heading down to Casper to take part in the State Track and Field Championships at Kelly Walsh.

Events will kick off at 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon with the 3200 finals alongside a mixture of field events.

Friday starts at 9 a.m. with the 800 meters alongside field events.

Saturday begins at 9 a.m. with field events and will be followed at 9:30 a.m. by the 100 meter hurdle finals.

Powell is taking at least one athlete in every event to the state meet; each athlete will compete in the respective events they competed in at regionals.
