PHS alumni association readies 109th reunion

The tradition continues in Powell this summer.

For the 109th consecutive year, Powell High School alums will gather June 30-July 1 to celebrate a weekend of class reunions. Individual anniversary classes will hold their own reunion gatherings on Friday, June 30, followed by a day of activities devoted to all-class participation on Saturday, July 1.

Some activities of the all-class nature bridge the two days. Friends of the Library will sponsor a poker run event for meandering in the downtown area Friday and Saturday. Homesteader Museum will host an open house Friday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. and PowerPoint presentations on the history of the Powell area at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday, July 1 events start at 7 a.m. with a 5K run sponsored by the PHS volleyball team. The fun run begins at the American Legion where breakfast will be served to reunion-goers at 8 a.m.

Reunion golf — the Panther Open — has been moved to the Saturday calendar at 9 a.m. at the Powell Golf Club.

The Northwest College Car Show will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday on the college mall. The PHS classes of 1968 and 1970 are hosting a Saturday in the park to provide mingling time for all classes. To close out the reunion weekend, Saturday events at the fairgrounds start with the third annual PHS cornhole tournament at 4 p.m.

For the evening at the fairgrounds, catering of food and beverages is set. The event will close down at 11 p.m.

“Plan on coming out and seeing all the events we’ve prepared for you,” said alumni board member Gerry Wilkins of Billings. “Let’s make this a great weekend and visit the town we grew up in and support all involved.”
