Peggy Ann (Shipman) Norris passed peacefully in her sleep Oct. 22, 2024 at the age of 83.
The oldest daughter and first child born to Sidney Clairl (Gus) Shipman and Oma Dee (Pearson) Shipman, Peggy arrived Aug. 8, 1941, in Powell, Wyoming, at the newly named War Memorial Hospital at the corner of Avenue C and Edmonds Street.
After attending schools in Powell, Elk City, Oklahoma, and back to Powell, she married John Robert Norris at the Union Presbyterian Church on Sept. 15, 1957. From 1966 to 1985, Johnny and Peggy farmed the property at 776 Lane 11. Additionally, they operated the Powell Auction Market from 1980-1985 where Peggy managed the office.
In 1987, Peggy earned an Associate’s of Arts in English from NWC in Powell and in 1989 a Bachelor’s of Arts in English from the University of Oklahoma in Norman where she entered graduate studies to earn a Master’s of Arts in Library Science in 1991. From 1991-1994, Peggy worked as a librarian on the island of Saipan. After this adventure, she returned to her hometown to work as the interlibrary loan expert at the Powell Branch Library. She retired from her librarian career in 2008.
Peggy was preceded in death by infant daughter Sandra Dee Norris, father Gus Shipman, niece Chancey DeeAnn Ulmer, mother Oma Dee Shipman, sister Norma Jean Herd, brother Sidney Dale Shipman, and ex-spouse John Robert Norris.
She is survived by her sister Donna Dee (Shipman) McIntosh of Malta, Montana, daughters Shelly Norris of Malta, Montana, and Jonny Norris of Lander, Wyoming, and son Jason (Laura) Norris of Greybull, Wyoming.
Surviving grandchildren include Sherry (Mike) Snell of Lovell, Wyoming, Adam Bullinger of Eldon, Missouri, Caleb (Kelli Brown) Bullinger of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Jordan Bullinger of Jefferson City, Missouri, Brent (Kasey) Carrington of Claremore, Oklahoma, Jen Michael (Cara) Holder of Lovell, Wyoming, and Ian Vannasdale of Powell, Wyoming.
Surviving great-grandchildren include Destiny Bullinger (Kody Bard) of Glendale, Arizona, Karlee and Taylor Carrington of Claremore, Oklahoma, Aspen and Chance Holder of Lovell, Wyoming, and one great great-grandson Karson Kody Bard of Glendale, Arizona.
