Not goodbye, but see you later

We have lived in Wyoming for 19 years. I was hoping for 30, but last week, my bride and I began another journey. We have moved back to Tennessee.

The last 19 years have been a wonderful ride with the Powell Church of Christ and with the Christian community in the Big Horn Basin. In those years, we started Powell Christian School and took over the Comfort Cottage. We have developed friendships that will exist for the rest of our lives.

Flashback … when moving to Powell there were some adjustments. Here is one: Our daughter Mary-Elizabeth was 14. We had been in Powell a few days and she asked me where the mall was located. I said, “Honey, there is no mall.” And she very loudly said, “No mall!” Not once but twice. She then asked where was Walmart. I told her it was 25 miles away in Cody. She then said, “No Walmart! Where have we come to?”

Today as a mother of two, along with the rest of us, she has fond memories of Powell and the area. It was a blessing from God to live here for 19 years.

For those who are Christians, do not take Powell for granted. It is easy to do. Please stay on your guard. Fellow pastors, you are the watchmen on the wall. I am close to many of you. Be on guard.

As Paul warned the elders of Ephesus in Acts 20, I am concerned about “savage wolves coming in among you.” Be on guard! There is a lot of craziness going on in this world and it is knocking at the gate. Satan loves to appear as an angel of light. Discernment is of the essence. Do not be afraid to stand. The Christian community is counting on you.

You may be wondering what the last paragraph has to do with the previous paragraph. It is simple: In order to have those fond memories for your family and friends you must work for it. God will bless it.

We may be back in a few weeks to take care of some final things. So, we are not saying goodbye. We are saying see you later. Thank you for the memories and the blessings.

God bless.
