Powell Medical Foundation received $11,000 from New York Life last month. The funding will support breast cancer screening by aiding in the purchase of a 3D mammogram unit for Powell Valley Healthcare.

“We are grateful for New York Life’s investment in the advancement of breast cancer screenings, which will change many lives for the better,” said Megan Pfefferle, PMF executive director.

The total cost of the unit was $313,000. The foundation provided $45,000, which was raised between its Mardi Gras and golf tournament fundraisers, and the State Loan and Investment Board provided $177,500.

“Without the support from New York Life, we wouldn’t be able to further assist with the purchase of the 3D Mammography unit, which will reduce indeterminate or abnormal mammograms as well as aid in early breast cancer detection rate,” Pfefferle said.

The Community Impact Grant program awards grants of up to $25,000 to local nonprofit organizations championed by New York Life agents and employees. Since the program’s inception in 2008, more than 600 grants totaling nearly $8 million have been awarded to nonprofits across the country.

“I’m proud to work for a company that encourages its agents and employees to devote their time, energy and talents to support the needs and priorities of their local community,” said Patricia Moulton, an agent with New York Life’s Montana General Office. “We are pleased that our partnership will have a long-lasting impact on Powell Medical Foundation and the population they serve.”
