On Monday evening, Buffalo Bill State Park officials will discuss their plans to construct new, temporary campsites on the South Fork side of the Buffalo Bill Reservoir. The public meeting is set to run from 6-7 p.m. Monday at Shreve Lodge, located on the North Fork Highway off Lakeside Road.

Park staff will provide maps and information, and receive public comments relating to the addition of temporary campsites at several different locations throughout the park. 

Buffalo Bill officials had planned to install 40 temporary spots at the Bartlett Lane Day Use Area to handle overflow from the North Fork campgrounds and meet a growing demand for overnight space in the Yellowstone National Park gateway community. However, residents in surrounding neighborhoods of the quiet area are concerned about the impact of the facility. In response to a petition and numerous inquiries and complaints, officials decided to delay work at the site until discussing their plans with the group.

Ahead of Monday’s meeting with state park officials, residents near the Barlett Day Use Area of Buffalo Bill State Park are gathering Sunday to discuss the proposed RV sites. The residents will meet Sunday from 2-4 p.m. for a potluck at the day use area shelter adjacent to the boat ramp. Organizers are hoping local political leaders will join in the conversation.
