Meeteetse Museums seeks stories from area’s historic ranches

Posted

Starting next month and continuing through the summer, the Meeteetse Museums hopes to gather oral histories of the region’s ranches.

“We are seeking any and all stories about ranches in the Meeteetse-area,” the museums say. “If you have worked on a ranch, helped with a branding, or have any ranch-related stories, we would love to hear from you. No story is too small!”

Those who previously worked or who currently work on a ranch in the Meeteetse area are invited to participate.

Oral histories are being sought from May 3 through Sept. 5.

“The project goes along with ‘Perspectives of the Past,’ our summer programming series exploring Meeteetse-area community and land,” explained Meeteetse Museums Director of Education and Programs Amy Phillips.

Those interested in sharing their stories — or who know of someone else with a good story to tell — are asked to fill out an online form at meeteetsemuseums.org/event/historic-ranches-of-meeteetse-oral-history-project/.

After completing the form, a museum staffer will reach out to schedule a time to speak either in person or remotely, using Zoom. The information from this document will be saved in the Meeteetse Museums’ archives, which are available to the public. Oral histories are considered a donation to the museums and all participants in the project will be asked to sign a deed of gift.
