Meeteetse Museums hosting Christmas open house

Staff at the Meeteetse Museums are inviting the public to a holiday open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11.

“This fun event features live music, door prizes, face painting, an art show with the artists present, and (best of all) Christmas cookie sampling!” said Amy Phillips, the museums’ director of education and programs.

Cody musician Justine May will play from 10:30-11:30 a.m. “and you do not want to miss this talented singer!” Phillips said.

While at the museums, attendees can also have their faces painted by Jordyn Guthrie and experience the Big Horn Basin with new eyes on the closing day of the “Art of the Basin” show. Artists will be available to speak about their work.

Phillips also advises guests to come ready to sample various Christmas cookies, as a number of area residents are bringing their favorite baked goods. Members of the public recently submitted  a batch of cookie recipes that have been gathered into “Meeteetse Christmas,” a recipe booklet that will be available for pre-order at the event. Inside the booklet, recipes from the public are complemented by historic photographs, newspaper clippings and recipes from the Meeteetse Museums’ collection.

Visitors to the open house will also be entered into a drawing to win one of several door prizes, including two memberships to the Meeteetse Museums, a “Meeteetse Christmas” booklet, a one-of-a-kind black-footed ferret Christmas ornament by Kris Hogg, and a “Made in Meeteetse” long sleeve ferret shirt.

Those who visit Meeteetse on Dec. 11 can also sample other Meeteetse Christmas events put on by the Meeteetse Visitor Center.
