May happenings at the library

Posted

Spring has finally started to arrive and while everyone starts to venture outside, it is still a great time to visit the library. We have seeds from our seed library as you start your gardens and we have nature backpacks filled with items to enhance your local hike around Park County. As always, we have binge boxes, Switch games and consoles, health kits, puzzles, Rokus, blood pressure kits and much more to borrow.

May is National Physical Fitness Month so Park County libraries will be celebrating walking and reading. Grab a paper calendar at one of our libraries or log in via the Beanstack app and every day you walk a quarter mile or more, log it and turn it in at the end of the month for a chance to win a prize. Don’t forget to download a great walking book from Libby to listen while you walk.

In partnership with the Homesteader Museum please join us on Monday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Homesteader Museum for an author talk by Jerrod Metz, author of “The Last Eleven Days of Earl Durand.” He will be giving a talk titled “Earl Durand: Good Neighbor and Wild Man.”

Trivia Night has a new day to accommodate other community events. It will be held the first Wednesday night of the month. Sign up for our Tuesday Book Discussion and join us Tuesday, May 9 at 2 p.m. where we will be discussing “The Library Book” by Susan Orlean.

Stop by for an Evening Book Discussion group on Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. This month’s book is “Anxious People” by Fredrik Backman. Sign up at the circulation desk.

Join us for Adult Craft Night on Thursday, May 18 at 6 p.m. in the Powell Library and learn basic makeup techniques from our own Meghann.

Summer reading kickoff will be celebrated on Thursday, June 1 with a visit from Pearl Observatory Planetarium. Learn about planets, stars and more. Please sign up for a 15-minute session. This program is for ages 3 and up — adults, teens and kids welcome.

Teens can come to the Powell Library every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and hang out and chat with the Young Adult librarian. On Thursdays at 3:30 p.m., teens can join the librarian for crafts and games. Then come by every Friday at 1 p.m. for a teen meeting room hangout.

Powell Library has lots of fun filled activities for children. Join Ms. Renee every Monday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for Baby and Toddler Time and every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. for Story Time. First-fifth grade join us on Friday, May 5 for Cinco de Mayo for Kids and have fun making a piñata. Join us for Lego Club from 3:30-4:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 11.

Stop by on Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. for the Powell Library Friends Book Sale. Stop by and take home as many books as you can and support the Powell Library.

Do you want to help support the library and help create a new Powell Library? Then please consider joining the Park County Library Foundation. We are looking for Powell representation and would love to have the Powell community well represented. The foundation only meets a few times a year and we can even meet in the Powell Library. If interested in learning more and want to join, contact Karen Horner at 307-527-1881 and help strengthen the library.

Park County libraries will be closed on Saturday, May 27 and Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 30.
