Marina Rodriguez, 96, passed away at her home on May 12, 2020. She was born in Sayuca, Mexico, to Nicolas and Julia Alcala Ponce.

Marina married Raymond Rodriguez on Feb. 5, 1948, in Jalisco, Mexico. They enjoyed over 70 years together. Completing their family were four children: Maggie, Dan, David and Robert.

After her marriage to Raymond, he brought her to his hometown of Powell. They farmed several places around Powell with the final location being their farm in Garland. She was always working to make sure that their homes and surrounding yards and gardens were picture perfect, even going up on the roof to wash windows up until two years ago.

Marina was a faithful member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. She and Raymond were members of the Snowmobile Club and members at Powell Golf Club. Her hobbies included: gardening, decorating, volunteering, cooking and craft making. She was a confraternity teacher. Once the crops were harvested, they enjoyed traveling, especially wintering in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and enjoying golfing.

Marina was a very generous, caring and loving person. She was forgiving of others. She was a devout Catholic and dedicated to her Catholic faith, strong in prayer, and charitable in works and donations. Marina was an exemplary Christian. She loved her family and was a devoted farm wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and good friend to all who knew her. Until her recent decline in health, she was tireless in caring for her husband, Raymond, who suffers with dementia. Marina will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include: her husband, Raymond; sons, Daniel (Linda) of Powell, David (Pinky) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; daughter Maggie (Jeff) Brandt of Powell; a sister, Laura (Harold) Stoll; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters and a son, Robert (Barbara).

Funeral Mass was held on Monday, May 18, 2020, at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, with burial at Crown Hill Cemetery. The service was streamed and is available on the Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services Facebook page.
