Marilyn was born on Sept. 21, 1937, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Roy and Ila Black. She was raised in the Sand Hills of Nebraska, on the family ranch. Marilyn was the eldest of three children.

After high school, she attended normal school teacher training and began her 47-year career as a teacher. Shortly after starting her teaching career, she met the love of her life, Paul Glause. They were married on Oct. 7, 1956, and spent over 64 years together. They have three children, Kelly, Jo and Tom.

Marilyn was a master teacher. She loved teaching and had a special talent to help all kids be successful in school. Marilyn earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, with an emphasis in science, math and administration. Throughout her career, she taught K-8, and she was a head teacher and a principal. Even after retiring, Marilyn still missed teaching the kids. She made a positive difference in many children’s lives.

Marilyn always loved learning and went on many educational adventures, like floating the Green River, exploring Yellowstone, working at paleontological and archeological sites, and cataloging and pressing the wildflowers and grasses of western Nebraska. Marilyn enjoyed riding her horse, Nancy, and had two special dogs, Duff and Daisy.

Family was everything to Marilyn. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, Paul, on their farm, and was an excellent cook, gardener and seamstress.

Marilyn was a wonderful mother. She helped her children participate in 4-H for many years and loved watching them rodeo. Marilyn enjoyed being a grandma to Kandi, Krystal, Kody, Seth, Tess and Pax. She was proud to be a great-grandma to Tavie, Karsten, Kamrynn, Kelsie, Jaycie, Kinlee, Kallen and Todd. She would have been excited to meet Tucker, who is due to be born in April.

Marilyn was one of the nicest people you would ever meet. This world is a better place because she was in it.

Marilyn passed away on Feb. 20, 2021. She is survived by her husband Paul Glause; her son Kelly (Karma) Glause, her daughter Jo (Kevin) Mitchell, her son Tom Glause (Terri), and by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of Marilyn’s life will take place this summer.
