Lowell “Gene” Gimmeson passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, in Casper, at the age of 92. Gene was born on Sept. 3, 1927, to Ernest Carter Gimmeson and Bessie Marie Hallam in Powell, Wyoming.

Gene did all of his schooling in Powell. After he graduated high school, he joined the Navy during WWII. He was stationed in Guam, serving two years before being discharged when the war was over.

He married Lavern “Vernie” Viola Allshouse on March 8, 1950, in Billings, Montana. They had one son, Brant. Gene loved his wife, who was so special, and all of his family, friends and people he worked with.

He enjoyed skiing, riding motorcycles, boating, fishing, backpacking, camping, hunting, farming, gardening, raising animals, and he had some very special dogs and cats. One of his most enjoyable passions was snowmobiling with his wife and friends. He spent a large amount of time in Sunlight Basin, the North and South Fork of the Shoshone, along with Yellowstone, the Tetons and Jackson Hole.

He went to work for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service after getting out of the Navy, instead of going to college as he had planned. He went to work in Powell for the U.S. Department of Agriculture ASCS for 22 years and became the county director in Powell. He also farmed and owned an auto repair service, which he also worked at. He then was promoted to regional manager and transferred to Worland, as district director for seven years. He was then promoted to state director in Casper for seven years. Then he retired and did consulting work as a crop insurance adjustor for several years.

Vernie and Gene loved to travel and spend time with their grandchildren and visiting friends. Gene enjoyed people and loved to help anyone. A very special and kind-hearted person!

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavern (Vernie) Viola Allshouse; brothers, Willard, Merl and William (Bill); and his sisters, “Lucille” Crane and Mary Alice deHaan.

Gene is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brant and Lori Gimmeson and two grandchildren, Kamry and Kolby Gimmeson of Aurora, Colorado.

Gene will be cremated and laid to rest alongside his wife, Lavern Viola Allshouse, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming.
