Dear Editor:

The name-calling, accusations and reckless talk I hear and see in the news and on social media from everyday people all the way up to our highest leaders is disheartening and seems to be spiraling out of control.

Every kind of animal can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing.

On the day of judgment we will give account for every careless word we speak, for by our words we will be justified, and by our words we will be condemned. We must ask the Lord to set a guard over our mouth and keep watch over the door. So let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking which are out of place. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it! What goes into our heart needs to be good so that what comes out of our mouth will be good. We have to be very careful what we watch and listen to.

Jesus Christ is the perfect example for how we should speak and treat each other in order to please God our father.

Now I know that this world is not going to get any better. The Bible tells me these things must come to pass — so do not lose heart!
