CODY — On July 4, 2026, the nation, state, county, and cities will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in a semiquincentennial celebration.

A local group is planning events to celebrate that in Park County.

The Park County America250 Taskforce recently announced the launch of a multi-year initiative to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. According to the release, the celebration will take place in the days, months and year leading up to July 4, 2026.

The taskforce aims to plan, coordinate, and promote a variety of events and activities throughout Park County that commemorate this historic milestone. The goal is to create a vibrant and inclusive celebration that reflects the unique spirit and heritage of our community.

The vision of Wyoming250 is to create a statewide tapestry of events and activities that tell the story of Wyoming's unique role in American history. The Park County America250 Taskforce will build upon this vision by developing and promoting local events that highlight Park County's specific contributions and perspectives.

The taskforce encourages participation that aligns with America250's core values:

• Inclusiveness: Everyone in Park County will feel welcome to participate in the celebration.

• Education: Events and activities will educate residents and visitors about the rich history of our nation and Park County's place within it.

• Inspiration: This anniversary is a springboard for reflection and discussion about the future we want to create for generations to come.

"This celebration is an opportunity to reflect on the rich history that has shaped our community — a history of resilience, innovation, and community spirit that continues to define us. With this event we hope to inspire future generations to build upon our legacy and create a brighter tomorrow," said Rep. Sandy Newsome (R-Cody), co-chairwoman of the Wyoming Semiquincentennial Planning Task Force.

The taskforce is seeking input and participation from individuals, organizations, and businesses across Park County.
