Legislation needed to protect women in athletic field

Posted

Dear Editor:

I commend our legislators for the hours they have expended in trying to balance an impossible budget. Programs and services will necessarily be curtailed or other revenues need to be found.

I do question why no legislation was introduced to protect one of Wyoming’s greatest resources, the young women of our state. Many girls moving through middle school, high school and college build their hopes and believe that, with hard work and given an equal chance, they can earn athletic scholarships for college. Many of our women in the past have earned such scholarships and have been provided the opportunity to attend college in- and out-of-state.

This opportunity to compete equally for such scholarships is being challenged by President Biden’s call to allow transgenders to compete with young girls on the athletic field. Men and women are physiologically different. To allow a transgendered male to compete against girls in athletic events is not only a travesty to our girls and to the sport, but in the opinion of Caitlyn Jenner “unfair.”

Please let’s make legislation to protect the right of our girls to participate in an environment free from unfair competition a first priority in our next legislative session.
