Though Christmas is still months away, plans are already underway to create a truly decked-out holiday home. The Kringle House — which was limited to about 1,000 square feet inside a Bernard Street residence last year — will grow exponentially this December to feature more than 10,000-square-feet of Christmasy goodness.
Donations will be accepted at the door, with Powell Valley Loaves and Fishes and the Powell Rotary Club as the recipients. The Kringle House brought in 6,500 pounds of food for the Powell-area’s emergency food pantry in its inaugural year.
“Last year, several hundred people came through. This year, I want to see a couple of thousand people come through,” said Chris Pelletier, founder of the Kringle House and local entrepreneur.
He added that Powell Valley Loaves and Fishes “is really going to need our help because of COVID-19. Their big food drive they do in May didn’t happen.”
Pelletier needs help — and there are several opportunities to share the Christmas spirit. If you have a box of decorations collecting dust in the attic, they are needed to help shore up Pelletier’s collection.
Can’t part with your family heirlooms? Pelletier is looking for volunteers to help build this year’s wintry dreamscape. There are myriad jobs to do. If you’re good with a hammer, a paintbrush or your imagination, the group needs your help, Pelletier said.
No time to join the all-volunteer crew? The Kringle House needs financial sponsors. “If a person just wants to make a difference, we have $25 sponsorships all the way up to $1,000. And we have several in between,” he said.
“I perceive this as becoming a tradition,” Pelletier said. “This is our second one. It’s going to be bigger and better than it was last year. And next year, it’s going to be bigger and better than what it is this year. But you know that sponsorship is our big key right now.”
The Kringle House will be COVID-19 friendly, for safe entertainment during the holiday season.
