Powell High School alum and hockey standout Kayla Kolpitcke recently earned multiple honors as a goaltender at the collegiate level.
Kolpitcke was named the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association’s (NCHA) Defensive Player of the Week and Marian University’s athlete of the month for November.
In order to earn her player of the week honors, Kolpitcke posted a 1-0 shutout against St. Catherine, where she finished with 40 saves; more than 18 of her saves came in the third period. She held the Wildcats scoreless on five different power-play opportunities.
Garnering athlete of the month for Marian came after she finished the month of November with .928 save percentage on the year and a 3.25 goals-against average.
Kolpitcke’s 295 saves ranked her second in the NCHA. She opened the season with a career-high 51 saves against the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.
Kolpitcke has five games with at least 40 saves, and has been the only goalie to earn playing time for the Sabres, with her first two wins of her career coming in November.
She graduated from Powell High School in 2020 and was an integral member of the Park County Ice Cats before heading to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to attend Marian University.
