The Powell Panther girls’ junior varsity basketball team is off to an 8-0 start after another pair of double digit wins, including Wyoming Indian 74-40 and the Cody froshmore team 54-18 in Thermopolis at the Big Horn Basin Classic.
Powell started off slow, trailing 10-4 in the first before ending on a 9-0 run to lead 13-10 heading into the second quarter.
A 27-3 second frame helped the Panthers build a significant lead at the break as seven of the nine Panthers scored in the second quarter.
Powell finished the second half with a 34-27 scoreline in its favor and ended with a 74-40 win.
Kaedenze Carter led the Panthers with 21 points on five 3-pointers, Kindyle Floy added 11 and Veronica Kovach had 10 points in her first JV action.
Autumn Kidd had eight points, Ava Teten and Shelby Zickefoose had six each, while Maddie Valdez had five, Hali Hancock had four and Leah Graham had three points.
In the second game against the Cody froshmore team the Panthers built a 17-2 lead after the first quarter.
From that point forward, coach Troy Hildebrand said the Panthers worked on some half-court offense and finished with the 54-18 win.
Carter led again with 15 points on three 3-pointers, as Floy was close behind with 12.
Hancock had seven points, Ava Teten and Valdez each had five. Zickefoose had four points, while Kidd, Graham and Kovach each had two.
Powell will host Cody and Worland on Thursday and Friday alongside the JV boys at 4 p.m. at Powell High School.
