John Michael Seitz

(Oct. 21, 1949 - June 8, 2021)

John was born in Powell, on Oct. 21, 1949, to Doyle and Ruth Seitz. He grew up in the Deaver area and attended Deaver-Frannie schools. After graduation he attended the University of Wyoming where he pursued an English degree and spent time singing with the University of Wyoming Chorale. He never finished his degree, but his interest in music continued for the rest of his life.

After college he spent some time in Utah working on oil drilling rigs and then moved back to the family farm in Deaver. He married Peggy Ann Kessel on Aug. 10, 1979. In 1987, John and Peggy adopted a daughter, Jennifer, and in 1991, their son, Samuel, was born.

John became a rancher and raised alfalfa and cattle. He worked hard to improve the farm, his favorite place to be. He always said he felt like he was living his father’s dream.

John attended Garland Community Church of God for most of his life. He was actively involved leading music for the congregation. A man of faith, he loved God, his family and his friends. John was always the first to help and he was generous to those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles, and his sister, Suzanne. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, his daughter, Jennifer (Daniel) Seitz-Hernandez, his son, Samuel (Laura) Seitz, two grandchildren, Colton and Peyton, his brother, Mack, and his sister, Pam.

A service will be held on Tuesday, June 15, at the Deaver Town Hall. Anyone wishing to give to a memorial could specify one of the following: Serenity Crisis Pregnancy Center, Gideons International, or Helping Hands of Deaver (a group that plans and organizes funeral dinners at the Deaver Town Hall).
