January happenings at the library

There is no better place to welcome 2023 than at the Park County Library. Park County libraries will once again be offering our Winter Reading Program. Winter Reading is open to all ages and is easy to participate in, just write down the title of every book you read on an entry slip at the library or via online. The more you read the more chances to win.  

Come celebrate Winter Reading with a Day of Hygge, on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 9 a.m.-noon. Enjoy the Danish concept of Hygge, which is about being cozy and comfortable, and there is no better place to celebrate than at the Powell Library. Join us for a cocoa and tea bar, card making stations and cozy places to read. Please feel free to wear your comfy clothes and bring a blanket to curl up and enjoy the library. 

Local historian Clay Gibbons will be at the Powell Library on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m.  to present his research on “Asa Mercer and the Banditti of the Plains.” This interesting historical presentation will focus on the Johnson County Range War and is a definite don’t miss. 

Remember every first Thursday of the month come to the Powell Library for Adult Trivia Night. Join us on Jan. 5  at 7 p.m. for a fun and challenging evening.  

Sign up for our Tuesday Book Discussion and join us Jan. 10 at 2 p.m.  where we will be discussing “The Hobbit.”

Park County Library is pleased to offer a Wyoming Library to Business Station at the Powell Library, to help local business owners and entrepreneurs. Please join us on Wednesday, Jan. 18  at noon for this month’s webinar on “Simple Tax Prep for Businesses.”

Join us for Adult Craft Night on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. for an evening of jewelry making. Attendees will learn basic wire bending; please sign up as space is limited.  

Powell Library is once again offering a Wellness Series on Wednesday, Jan. 11 and Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. Come by the library to discover your greatness. 

Starting Thursday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. , stop by the Powell Library every Thursday for Tech Classes. Come learn how to access online books and other help with technology from our wonderful library staff. 

Do you have unfinished projects and crafts you keep meaning to get to? Well then come to the library on Friday, Jan. 13 and Jan. 27 at 9 a.m. with your project and have some fun while you tackle those unfinished things. 

On Friday, Jan. 20 at 9 a.m. come to the library to learn and play cribbage and other card games.  

Teens come to the Powell Library on Friday, Jan. 13, Jan. 20 and Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. for a fun YA craft class. These classes will be in partnership with the Homesteader Museum. Come join Brandi Wright who will help teach the art of origami and knitting. Sign up is required so swing by the library to sign up. 

Powell Library has lots of fun-filled activities for children. Join Ms. Renee every Monday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for Baby and Toddler Time and every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. for Story Time.  Kids in first-fifth grade can sign up for WinterFrost Book Club. Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 17, join us every Tuesday from 3:30-4:15 p.m.  for reading, discussions and fun activity.

In January, stop by on Saturday, Jan. 7 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.  and every Thursday from 1-3 p.m.  for the Powell Library Friends Book Sale. Stop by and take home as many books as you can and support the Powell Library.  

Please remember all Park County libraries will be closed Monday, Jan. 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.   

If you want to help support the library and help create a new Powell Library then please consider joining the Park County Library Foundation. We are looking for Powell representation and would love to have the Powell community well represented. The foundation only meets a few times a year and we can even meet in the Powell Library.
