Janice Meredith Staker Bessler passed away on April 1, 2021, at the Powell Valley Care Center.

Janice was the daughter of Sherman and Cheddie Moncur Staker (Irwin), and was born on April 7, 1934, in Burley, Idaho. She spent her childhood in Burley and attended the Burley schools.

Janice married Raymond John Bessler in Red Lodge, Montana, on April 21, 1950, and they spent their entire married life in Powell. Janice and Raymond were the parents of two sons, Bud and Mike, and three daughters, Wanda, Sharon and Jan. 

Janice was a housewife who enjoyed cooking, canning, and sewing for her family members. She took great pride in all of those activities and especially in her beautiful flower gardens. Janice was a member of the Willwood Women’s Club, the Eagles and the Elks Does.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, her sister Jerry Gilman, her brothers Gib and Keith Staker, her son-in-law Eric Richardson, and her grandson Ryan Richardson. She is survived by her sons, Bud (Linda) Bessler of Worland, Wyoming, and Mike (Rindy) Bessler of Shoshoni, Wyoming; her adopted son, Tim (Janet) Large of Powell; and her daughters, Wanda Bessler Jacobs, Sharon Bessler Richardson and Jan (Guy) Bennett, all of Powell. She is also survived by her grandchildren Gary (Teresa) Bessler, Lee (Jamie) Bessler, Kacey (Chad) Green, Jeromy Jacobs, Jennifer (Chancey) Hallock, Joshua (Keshia) Jacobs, Desaray Bessler, Erin (Lee) Study, Dane Bennett and Dana Richardson; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Powell Valley Care Center, Dr. Bohlman, Dr. Childers, the ER and hospital staff, all of whom took such good care of their mom during her illness.
