Honored to be the Flag Lady

Posted

Dear Editor:

I owe a great deal of appreciation to Jerry Clark, former post commander of the American Legion, for asking me several years ago to be the Flag Lady for Powell.

To me seeing a flag flying is a beautiful sight, but not when it is torn or faded. At that time is when I start doing my job. If the flag needs replaced I help them. If they don’t have a flag, I ask them if they would like to fly one. When it needs to be installed, my friend Ron Miller has been very willing to help me. I wouldn’t have been able to do some of this without him, thanks so much, Ron.

I have been doing this for a long time now and it is very hard to give it up, but I am in my 90th year and have had the COVID-19 disease which has left me very tired and not much energy, so I have decided to resign.

It has been an absolute pleasure to serve you. If I have caused any problems with my over enthusiasm for you flying your flag or not, I  am sorry. My intention has always been, don’t mention politics, just get that beautiful piece of cloth that represents our country up there, wherever you are.

Many thanks to the people of Powell for your kindness to me.

Sincerely,

Midge Johnson

Powell
