Golf tourney raises $12K for law enforcement

In its second year, the Back the Blue Golf Tournament raised more money for local law enforcement agencies.

A total of 88 people played in the Aug. 28 tournament, while more than 65 businesses, residents and supporters made donations to the event.

“We were once again amazed by the generosity of Park County and its residents,” said organizer Amber McClure.

After adding up all of the contributions and expenses, organizers wound up with $12,000 to divide between the Powell Police Department, Cody Police Department, Park County Sheriff’s Office and Wyoming Highway Patrol. Each department will receive a check for $3,000.

Last year, each agency received $2,000. Cody police put the money in their Fallen Officer Fund, the sheriff’s department bought new body armor, Powell police used the money for some much needed repairs and the Highway Patrol put the dollars toward the holiday “Shop with a Cop” program.

Organizers hope to continue the event in 2022.

“We are hoping that next year’s tournament will be even bigger and better than this year and last year’s tournament,” McClure said.

The Cody Paw Spa and Motz-Rusin Insurance hosted the event, with support from numerous businesses and donors. For instance, Bubba’s BBQ donated lunch to the players and DSE provided hole signs and sponsored team shirts.

The four-man team of David DeBock, Greg Toland, John Wetzel and Rick Norberg won the event with a gross score of 18 under par.
