Gas cost increase

PUBLIC NOTICE
The Wyoming Public Service Commission (Commission) approved the Application of Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. (MDU or the Company) to pass on a wholesale gas cost increase of $0.127 per dekatherm (Dth) to its Residential, Firm General Service customers, and Small Interruptible and Large Interruptible customers, and an increase of $0.123 per Dth to its Seasonal customers, through its CBA, effective on and after January 1, 2020. The proposed pass-on increases are attributable to the net effect of an increase in the overall commodity price and pipeline rates, and a decrease in the total demand charge. The Commission’s approval is subject to notice, protest, intervention, refund, change, further investigation, opportunity for hearing and further order of the Commission.
The average MDU residential customer using 15.4 Dth in January 2020 will see a bill increase of approximately $1.96 per Dth or 2.42%, before taxes. Actual bills will vary with usage.
The proposed pass-on results in a projected dollar-for-dollar increase of approximately $54,737 in the Company’s January 2020 revenues. The increase does not change the Company’s authorized rate of return.
Commission Rule Chapter 3, Section 26 allows a utility to pass on to its customers known or projected commodity cost increases or decreases on a dollar-for-dollar basis, subject to public notice, opportunity for hearing and refund.
MDU’s Application is on file at the Commission’s offices in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Application is available for inspection by any interested person during regular business hours or online at: http://psc.state.wy.us/.
Anyone desiring to file a statement, intervention petition, protest or request for a public hearing in this matter must file in writing with the Commission on or before February 13, 2020.
