As part of a county-wide, multi-agency impaired driving enforcement operation, the Fremont County DUI Task Force made 858 traffic stops, arrested 20 impaired drivers and made 14 controlled substance arrests over the Labor Day weekend.

While the focus was on impaired driving, the task force also issued 62 citations for no seat belt, 22 citations for the lack of child safety restraints, 151 citations for speeding, 130 citations for other offenses and made 37 other arrests. The task force also issued 475 warnings during the four-day operation.

Through the end of August 2021, there have been seven fatal crashes and eight deaths in Fremont County, with five of those crashes involving alcohol use and three involving the lack of a sea tbelt. Through August, there have been 41 alcohol-related crashes in Fremont County during 2021.

The Fremont County DUI Task Force is the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and the Lander, Riverton, Shoshoni and Wind River police departments.

The group recommends safe alternatives to drinking and driving.

“Even if you’ve had only one alcoholic beverage, designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation, taxi or a ride sharing service to get home safely,” the task force said.

It also recommends taking away the keys of a friend who’s about to drink and drive and to contact law enforcement if you see a drunk driver on the road.
