A large storage facility known as an Alaskan structure but referred to variously as Kanye’s tent or a quonset hut may be moved to a Powell business.
The structure, originally put up in 2020 on Big Horn Avenue in Cody by media mogul Kanye West as part of his planned shoe manufacturing business, was taken down in July, two months after the city’s planning and zoning commission declined a requested extension by the new owners.
On Sept. 6, Powell City Council members unanimously approved a request from Gluten Free Oats to add a building to the property it leases from the city.
While the approval is only the first step in the process and the company would still need a building permit before any specific structure is approved, Mayor John Wetzel told council members the planned building was West’s former storage facility.
A representative for the company said they didn’t want to go through with purchasing the now deconstructed building until they knew it’d be allowed.
