Yellowstone National Park has proven to be quite the draw for top White House officials.

After hosting Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence over the summer, Yellowstone officials will welcome First Lady Melania Trump to the park this week.

Trump is scheduled to spend much of today Thursday) in the Jackson area, before traveling to Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks on Friday.

In a Tuesday statement, the White House said the first lady is traveling to Wyoming “to visit some of America’s treasured national parks and spread the message of her initiative, BE BEST.”

The BE BEST initiative is aimed at promoting values like healthy living, encouragement, kindness and respect, with the intent of helping children “deal with the evils of the opioid crisis and avoid negative social media
interactions.”

“The visit out West will focus on one of the first lady’s pillars of BE BEST — well-being — and encourage fourth graders to get a [free national park pass] in order to spend time outdoors and learn more about the natural beauty of our country,” the White House statement said, adding that, “In addition to speaking with children about the value of getting out in nature and our national parks, this trip will highlight a few historic natural landmarks.”

Melania Trump will arrive at the Jackson Hole Airport Thursday and spend the day touring the Snake River, visiting the Jackson Hole Square Elk Arches and meeting with area Boy Scouts, according to a trip itinerary. She’ll then travel to Grand Teton on Friday morning, accompanied by dozens of fourth grade students from the Jackson area and U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt.

Around midday, Trump and Bernhardt will stop by Old Faithful. It will be the second trip that Bernhardt has made to the famed geyser in 2019, as he visited the site in June alongside the vice president and second lady.
