Eunice Joy Collins, 87, of Powell, went peacefully to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Powell Valley Hospital.

Eunice was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota, the daughter of Norman and Ethel Haugse.

Eunice is survived by her son Jon Collins, of Powell; her daughter Donna (Dan) Logan of Loveland, Colorado; brother Clayton (Delores) Haugse of Bozeman, Montana; sister-in-law Sue (Wilbur) Clark of Helena, Montana; along with her five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great grand-dogs.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Collins, daughter Tracy Ann Miller, parents, brother Myron Haugse, and her grandson Jonathan Miller.

Eunice had a passion for learning and teaching. She graduated from Sentinel Butte High School at just 16 years old and went on to study at Dickinson Teacher College to earn her two-year teaching degree at age 18. Upon graduation she headed to Powell and began teaching first grade at Parkside Elementary School. She was wed to Donald Collins on April 18, 1954.

Eunice resided in Powell for 69 years, with a majority of those years living on North Absaroka Street. Eunice was a loving wife, mother, and grandma, fondly known as Grandma “Nuni” and a friend to everyone she ever met.

Eunice was always learning and sharing with anyone she came into contact with. She never knew a stranger and loved to chat and visit. She was an avid reader and sports fanatic. She enjoyed journaling, a good cup of coffee, the Colorado Rockies, phone calls with family and friends, and playing bridge with friends.

She was the director of the Powell Senior Center for many years, and upon her retirement, she was devoted to caring for her son Jon.

Eunice had a deep faith and love for Jesus and she would remind us often to always “trust in the Lord” completely. Her family and friends were very important and special to her. She was always taking the time to call and write to each of them.

Services will be held Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Powell. Interment will be at the family plot, and then back to the church for a light lunch and sharing stories and memories of Eunice.

Gifts or donations may be sent to a charity of your choice or the Rocky Mountain Manor or First United Methodist Church.
