A Sept. 3 story on the Powell Valley Healthcare emergency department renovation referred to it as a $2.9 million project. The total cost is actually $1.9 million. The Tribune regrets the error.

Hospital leaders originally estimated the work would cost $2.9 million, including improvements to the exam rooms. Last October, three bids for the project came in, ranging from $3.264 million to $3.63 million. That put the cost outside the hospital’s budget.

In order to bring those costs down, the hospital worked with its affiliate, Billings Clinic, and hired the low bidder, Diamond Point Construction, as a construction manager at risk. As the construction manager, Diamond Point collaborated with PVHC to get the cost of the project down, ultimately lowering the total cost by $1 million.

Once complete, the renovation will provide greater security and more privacy than the current department has, which was built in 1984. The project will also improve workflow for nurses and doctors, which will improve patient care.
