When Elks Lodge 2303 members gathered last month to honor the winners of the lodge’s Americanism Essay Contest, there was a glaring absence: that of Past Exalted Ruler Debby Lynn.
Lynn, who died in December, “was the guiding force behind our Elks Lodge Americanism Program for many years,” said Gary Lucus, the current chairman of the program.
Lucus said she dedicated many hours to the youth of the Powell community — including by getting in touch with each of Powell’s elementary schools to ensure “that every eligible student was aware of this essay contest each and every year.”
“Debby loved working with all of the teachers and continually encouraged the students to participate in this patriotic program,” Lucus said, expressing the lodge’s appreciation for “her her never-ending love and support for the elementary students in the Powell school community.”
