Edna (Nielsen) Caslick of Powell passed away on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, at the age of 94.

Born on Jan. 31, 1928, she was the seventh child of Niels and Emma (Bergeron) Nielsen, early homesteaders in Powell. After graduating from the University of Washington, she met her husband, James W. Caslick, while both of them were working in Yellowstone National Park.

They were married in Gainesville, Florida, where they lived for 10 years. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before his death in 2018.

Edna worked for several years as an elementary school librarian and then for many years as a secretary at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. After retirement, she and her husband volunteered in both Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks during the summer and winter seasons. Both of them received national recognition for the thousands of hours they volunteered over 20 years.

She also volunteered at the Northwest College Library and at the Powell Public Library. She was a faithful member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Powell.

She is survived by two sons, Glenn Caslick of Newfield, New York, and Paul (Marlene) Caslick of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister, Emma Morris of Bellevue, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and five other siblings.

The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses of Powell Valley Hospital, The Heartland, Sunflower Senior Services, Stillwater Hospice and Bonnie Blue Jacket Memorial Nursing Home in Basin, Wyoming, for their kind help and support of Edna in the final months of her life.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Powell Library.
