Beet harvesters will be in the fields and beet trucks on the roads starting Monday, Sept. 19.
The early dig of sugar beets in Western Sugar Coop’s Lovell Factory District gets underway with scheduled quota deliveries for two weeks before the regular harvest kicks into full gear on Thursday, Oct. 6.
The Lovell factory will start processing beets on Sept. 21. Growers will deliver only enough in the early dig to stay three days ahead of factory need.
“Beets don’t store very well in the heat,” said Heart Mountain beet farmer and board member Ric Rodriguez. “We only want to get three days of beets (for the factory) on the ground.”
