Dorthy Alyne (Wheeler) Fross, daughter of Hershel and Maud Wheeler, was born in Macomb, Illinois, on Nov. 24, 1931, and passed, at home in Powell, on Nov. 14, 2020.

Dorthy often talked of her love for her savior, Jesus Christ, and for Lynn Fross, her husband of 64 years, at the time of his passing.

Lynn and Dorthy met after the second world war, when Lynn returned from the Navy, and were married June 9, 1949. Dorthy was a few months shy of her 18th birthday. She told the story of her mom asking if she was sure she wanted to make a life with Lynn, to which she replied, “I can’t see why not.”

This is how Dorthy approached everything in life. Her favorite Bible passage, Numbers 6:24-26: The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

These truths were woven into every area of Dorthy’s life. Though she saw many trials, she always found joy, attacked everything with the most optimistic outlooks and creativity — a true overcomer. Dorthy got great joy from sharing small moments and imparting life lessons to all those around her.

Dorthy is survived by her four sons, Todd (Pauley), Kurt (Maren), Cole, and Zane (Ginger) Fross; foster daughter Bernedett Shotgun; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many other family members and friends who became family over the years.

If you ever had the honor of sharing time around Dorthy’s table, there was a simple blessing that would be spoken as you left. We leave you with Dorthy’s words, “the Lord bless you and keep you safe.”

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Nov. 24, 2020, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 777 East 7th Street, in Powell, with visitation preceding at 9 - 9:45 a.m. Pastor Mike Walsh will be officiating.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Crown Hill Cemetery, with a lunch reception after. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Thompson Funeral Home, with friends and family viewing Monday evening, Nov. 23, 2020, from 6 - 7:30 pm.
