Donations sought to save Vietnam memorial in Cody

The Wyoming Veterans Memorial Park Foundation, located in Cody, has embarked on a campaign to “Save the Wall.”

After 35 years the Vietnam War Memorial is in need of repairs, the foundation says, to maintain both its physical integrity and the dignity deserving of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Group members said the granite is deteriorating, with the rebar coming through the surface in some places.

The foundation is seeking the public’s help with the roughly $49,000 project.

The City of Cody will add a granite plaque nearby with a map of Vietnam, as the memorial in Cody is believed to be the only monument of its type without a map adjacent.

Donations can be made at any Pinnacle Bank location in Wyoming, by contributing to the “Save the Wall”/Wyoming Veterans Memorial Park Foundation account. Checks should be made out to “Save the Wall” and can be mailed to WYVMPF, PO Box 2681, Cody, Wyoming, 82414. All donations are tax deductible, with receipts available upon request.

The State of Wyoming Veterans Memorial Park, located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 14/16/20 and 16th Street in Cody, also includes memorials to Wyoming soldiers who died in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Enduring Freedom engagements and peace-time service.
