Daredevils from across the Big Horn Basin duked it out on Saturday at the annual Park County Demolition Derby. There were four different classes at this year’s derby — limited weld, chain-up, truck and women’s compact.
In the limited weld, the main event, Dominic Vaughn smashed his way to a first-place finish, winning $3,000. Others who brought home cash in the finals were Travis Kovach, Trent Gillett, Chad Dietz and Tyler Showalter, who finished second through fifth, respectively.
Vaughn, Kovach and Dietz won the first heat, Gillett, Bryce Kelso and Rory Smith won the second, and Wyatt Petersen, Brett Atkinson and Tyler Showalter advanced in the “grudge heat.”
Preston Blankenship won first in the chain-up class to take home $600. Zac Zier and Brad Poley finished second and third, respectively.
In the first-ever women’s compact class, K. La Watts won and took home $600. Kalina Smith and Jordan Gibson finished second and third.
Sean Moore was the champion in the truck class for a prize of $500. Kelly Herrick took second in that event, winning $250.
In every class, $100 was given for each prize flag. Kelso and Vaughn won two pin prizes, while Showalter, Smith, Poley and Sean Moore each got one.
Additionally, trophies were awarded to the top three finishers in every class.
