Dennis Robert Sherman, 68, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, at his residence. 

Mr. Sherman was born on Sept. 14, 1953, in Lancaster, Wisconsin, to the late Robert Sherman and Jean Edwards. Mr. Sherman joined the USCG in 1973. When Dennis retired from the USCG in 2005, he was a C.W.0.4, the highest-ranking officer he could be through his enlistment. He served 32 years in the U.S Coast Guard. 

During his time in the Coast Guard, he received many medals and certificates. Some of his medals and ribbons include CG Pistol Marksman Ribbon, Rifle Marksman Ribbon, Antarctica Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. 

He went to school for many different courses: Shipboard Firefighting; Diesel, Machinery Technician; Hydraulic Sys and Equipment; and many more. While being in the Coast Guard, he made several lifelong friends. 

Mr. Sherman liked to ride motorcycles, fish, hunt and camp. He enjoyed being around his family and friends. 

Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sherman and Jean Edwards; brother-in-law Bob Edwards; uncle Fred Edwards; and aunts, Jeannette Sherman and Joyce Rickers. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna Sherman of Vidor, Texas; sons, Frank Sherman and wife Jenny of Eureka, California, and James Sherman of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter Anita Glineck of Vidor, Texas; brothers, Roger Sherman of Minnesota and Frank Sherman of Michigan; sisters, Vicky Edwards of Powell, Patricia Pickering of Melbourne, Florida, and Susie Mann of Powell; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends. 

A service of remembrance will be held on Feb. 12, 2022, at 2 p.m., at Trinity Baptist Church, located at 2850 Tx-12 Vidor, Texas, with Reverend Marvin Fuller officiating.
