Dance school takes ‘magical’ trip to Nashville

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Victoria’s School of Dance had a successful 2020-21 season — and their most recent trip put a bow on it.

Dancers from the Powell-based studio ventured to Nashville, Tennessee, in mid-July to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. Victoria’s School of Dance (VSOD) performed three times as a studio, in addition to a performance with the collective “Dance the Magic!” program.

“Their hard work and commitment paid off,” VSOD director Victoria Danovsky said. “When they came off the stage, they felt so accomplished, and it pays off knowing they’ve put their time in.”

The Grand Ole Opry is a country music facility founded in 1925. It is still considered one of the grandest venues in the industry and has even been called “the home of American music.”

“It was amazing to have them perform on that stage,” Danovsky said. “It’s such an authentic place, and it was so rewarding to see them up there after all their hard work.”

Dancers also had the chance to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and participate in a workshop with one of Taylor Swift’s lead dancers. At the clinic, students learned routines and the importance of auditions.

Danovsky takes her students on an out-of-state trip every other summer, with past destinations including New York City, Disneyland and Disney World. Between the performances, workshop and hall of fame visit, the Nashville experience was a memorable one.

“It was all really neat,” Danovsky said. “I think all of the dance teachers I know would say it was a magical moment to have the opportunity to travel and perform again.”

While the trip marked the end of the dance season, the 2021-22 program is quickly approaching. It begins Sept. 7, when dancers will start preparing for their annual recital in the spring.
