A 61-year-old Cody man died Friday night after his motorcycle was hit by another vehicle on the South Fork Highway.
Daniel M. Tudor was roughly 4 miles outside of Cody on Wyo. 291 when he stopped to make a left-hand turn. However, the driver of a westbound 2010 Mazda 3 — who was driving into the sun — failed to see his stopped motorcycle, the Wyoming Highway Patrol said.
“The Mazda collided with the back of the Harley, causing the motorcycle driver to be thrown from the bike,” the patrol said.
Tudor, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene of the crash. The driver of Mazda, 18-year-old Megan McCann of Cody, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
Troopers were summoned to the scene at 8:01 p.m.
Tudor’s death represented the 52nd fatality on Wyoming’s roads in 2021. At the same point in 2020, there had been 59 such deaths, with 92 in 2019.
