Studio Theatre at Cody Center for the Performing Arts has announced its fourth season of “Famous & Infamous Women of the West: The Cody Monologues.” This original, one-act play features some of the most important, yet oft forgot, women who helped shape Cody history.

Performances will be July 11-14, 18-19, 25-28, and Aug. 8-11, 16-17. All showtimes are at 7 p.m., with an additional performance Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 with discounts available for students, seniors, military and groups of eight or more. In addition to the show, each Thursday performance will include a post-show talk back with local authors, historians and artists. The series is sponsored by the Wyoming Humanities Council.

“The show is perfect for locals and visitors alike,” said play author and director Bethany Sandvik. “It’s a great option for people who want an entertaining history lesson and a unique Cody experience.”

The “Famous & Infamous Women of the West” include author and Cody Enterprise owner, Caroline Lockhart; “red light district” dames Cassie Waters and Etta Feeley; the original “Lady Doc,” Dr. Francis Lane; Heart Mountain Relocation Camp resident artist Estelle Ishigo; Wild West performer turned Park County Clerk Orilla Downing (Hollister); Buffalo Bill’s niece and museum founder Mary Jester Allen; and eccentric artist Olive Fell. The show will feature a different mix of these women each night in Studio Theatre’s 55-seat professional, black-box theatre in the Big Horn Basin.

The Thursday talk-back series includes the following speakers and topics:

Thursday, July 11: Join the Class of 1949 and friends who will talk about their memories of many of the women highlighted in the play. Their stories about these infamous women are charming, funny and at times, frightening. Scheduled to appear are Lee Molesworth, Louis (Junior) Kousoulos and Jim Nielson, with more to be announced.

Thursday, July 18: In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Cody Stampede, historian and author Paul Fees will talk about the history of rodeo in Cody. He’s a former Cody Stampede board member and past curator of the Buffalo Bill Museum.

Thursday, July 25: Ashley Hlebinsky, the Robert W. Woodruff Curator of the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, will discuss the recent renovation of the museum and share some highlights about the collection.

Thursday, Aug. 8: Noya Kansky, archivist intern at Heart Mountain WWII Japanese Confinement Site, will discuss her work cataloguing the site’s Estelle Ishigo collection and share some of her paintings and sketches.

“Our fourth season is sure to be the best one yet,” said Sandvik. “I’m particularly excited for our Thursday talk-back series. It’s a great way to learn even more about these phenomenal women and the true history of Cody.”

The Cody Monologues features 11 local, professional actors. Some of the cast has been involved from the beginning. That includes Karen Grimm, who plays Orilla Downing, Sandvik reprising her role as Cassie Waters and Annamarie Victor, who portrays the artist Olive Fell.

The cast also includes newcomers Demity Baughman (Caroline Lockhart, selected performances), Sarah Roberts (Dr. Lane, selected performances) and Sharice Roberson (Estelle Ishigo). Returning this year are Lynne Rheinhardt (Mary Jester Allen), Nan Koehler and Whitney Maslak (who will share the role of Etta Feeley), Patrisha Hennings (Caroline Lockhart, selected performances) and Erin Zagorodney (Dr. Lane, selected performances).
