A climbing wall instructor certification course will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Cabre Gym at Northwest College.

The program establishes a voluntary certification for climbing instructors, and a uniform set of performance standards that can be easily adopted throughout North America. It is the ideal course for anyone interested in becoming a Climbing Wall Association (CWA) certified instructor, or working directly with patrons at an indoor climbing wall or facility. 

The curriculum includes professionalism, equipment inspections, risk management (as it relates to climbing activities), patron orientations and developing effective teaching skills.

Participants who pass the course will receive a certification card issued by the CWA.

Students will need to download and read the Student Manual before the course begins. Once students are registered and have paid for the course, a link to the student manual will be sent.

Participants under the age of 16 may audit the course, but will not receive certification. (They will instead receive a letter of completion.)

Powell Valley Community Education hosts a weekly open climbing night at the Cabre Gym, with the indoor rock wall open from 6-9 p.m. Mondays. Registration is $5.

PVCE also provides weekly yoga classes. Gentle yoga is on Tuesdays from 5-6 p.m., while prenatal yoga is on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Both yoga classes take place in the NWC Fagerberg Building Annex, 724 N. Beckman St.
