After getting several vehicles at better-than-expected prices last month, the City of Powell’s luck ran out last week.
At its Oct. 7 meeting, the city council agreed to spend $71,630.34 on a new truck from Fremont Motor Company of Riverton. The bid, which came in about $6,600 over budget, was the only one the city received.
The new Chevrolet Silverado 2500 includes a utility box and a lift gate, which drove up the cost. The Chevy will be used by the city’s electric department and was only about $300 more than an identical truck the water department acquired last year, said City Administrator Zack Thorington.
The council could try seeking more offers, Thorington said, but “I’m not quite sure if we rebid it if you’d get another bid.”
The council unanimously voted to accept Fremont’s offer. It’s due to be delivered by March 31.
The additional $6,630 worth of spending will be more than offset by five vehicles that came in $35,600 under budget in September.
