City needs to do more than just place a street cone to flag a leak

Dear Editor:

There is a water leak at the corner of North Bent and Seventh Street — on the north side of Seventh sStreet. It bubbles up out of the street and runs east. Sometimes there is more, sometimes less water.

The city of Powell has ignored this for YEARS according to a local resident. Local residents have notified the city of Powell of the problem multiple times. The city of Powell has used an excuse of the storm drains being full and bubbling up. This doesn’t appear to be the problem because the water is bubbling up, and there haven’t been rain storms in the past few days. After I reported the problem this morning, the city put a cone up covering where the water bubbles up.

Leaving this problem without proper repair may cause water to travel toward local basements and crawl spaces — possibly leading to damage or flooding. This could result in a lawsuit against the city.

Part of the local irrigation system is just to the west of this area. I guess there is a chance that this could be causing the problem.

At any rate, this should be fixed. The local residents pay taxes just like the rest of us and don’t deserve this.
