A grant from the Wyoming Department of Family Services has made funding available for qualified Northwest College students to receive assistance with the cost of child care during the fall 2022 semester. Those who qualify may use the grant award at a child care provider of their choice.
Eligible students must be enrolled in a degree, credit diploma, or certificate program for the fall 2022 semester, and could receive up to $6,000. Enrollment may be online, hybrid, in-person, or any combination. United States citizens, non-citizens, and international students all may qualify. Eligible students must also experience one or more of the following hardships related to child care costs:
• Underemployed
• Unemployed
• Reduced college course load
• Reduced credits earned in the prior academic term
• Risk of reduced credits in the upcoming academic term
• Prohibitive child care costs
The level of assistance is dependent on the age and number of children. Grant awards are also prorated based on student enrollment as follows:
• 100% for full-time status (12-plus credits)
• 75% for quarter-time status (nine-11 credits)
• 50% for half-time status (six-eight credits)
• 25% for less than half-time status (one-five credits)
Students who are not eligible include those not enrolled in the fall 2022 semester, students enrolled in dual and/or concurrent courses, students enrolled in a non-degree program, students enrolled in only life enrichment and/or professional development courses, and students with no child care costs.
NWC students may apply by visiting nwc.edu/childcare-grant. Funding is limited and awards will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis as a one-time payment beginning Sept. 14.
