Cecil James Ball of Powell passed away at home on Thursday, Nov. 19, at the age of 86.

Cecil was born in Gering, Nebraska, on Sept. 4, 1934, to Cecil L. and Alice Ball. He grew up with five brothers and two sisters. In 1956 he married his loving wife, JoAnn Marie Hawkins, from Boring, Oregon. Together they had one girl and four boys.

Cecil joined the Air Force in 1952. He was sent to Korea right after the Korean War. It was there that he came to know Jesus through the influence of a few military friends.

He was a hard worker, as a ranch hand in Nebraska and Wyoming, and various occupations. He also had his own plumbing business in the 1970s in Silverton, Oregon. He also pastored various country churches for about 22 years.

As a teenager Cecil also spent a lot of time with his cousins in LaGrange, Wyoming, and worked on a ranch.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, his son Greg, a daughter-in-law Mary Evelyn, and a grandson David (stillborn).

Cecil is survived by his wife JoAnn; sister Doris Moe of Okeechobee, Florida; sons Ken (Marcy) of Sisters, Oregon; Mike (Faith) of Loreto, Mexico; Nate (Carmen) of Aurora, Colorado; a daughter Kayla Barnard (Wade) of Powell; a daughter-in-law, Elsa Ball of Montrose, Colorado; 29 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Cecil loved his family — lots of grandkids to love! He was an avid student of the Bible, even continuing his studies with several Bible programs on his computer after he retired in 2002.

A family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Crown Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will take place on Nov. 28, at Grace Point Church, at 1 p.m. The public is invited.
