Billy Greaham

Posted

Billy was born on a snowy winter day on Nov. 29, 1944, to Elmer Evert and Ola Martha Greaham (both deceased). He was the “sandwich child,” or the middle of nine children.

He graduated from Leedey High School in 1963 and was selected as an “Outstanding Alumni” in 2011. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967 and a Master of Education degree in 1970 from Southwestern State College. On May 27, 1967, he married the love of his life, Linda Lou Schmidt, of Powell, Wyoming. They were married in Hydro, Oklahoma.

He taught his first two years in Hawthorne, Nevada, and the next 31 years at Powell Junior High/Powell Middle School, where he loved each and every year and each and every student! Bill also enjoyed coaching junior high track and boys’ and girls’ basketball. He helped reinstitute girls’ basketball into the Powell school system.

Billy and Linda had one son, Jeffery Kirk, and a daughter, Julie Anne. Over the next 57-plus years, that family grew to include seven grandchildren: Nicole Lasson Ohman, Kelsey Ohman, Kirk Ohman, Dillon Ohman, Elise Cole, Dalton Greaham and Harlie Riddle. The family continues to grow, now including 10 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way! They include Bradlee, Kaile, and Sabelle Lasson; Veronica and Kristian Audevart; Kameron and Khloee Ohman; Adelyn Ohman and Finlee Zaske.

Bill’s immediate family included eight brothers and sisters: Freddie (deceased), Edna Day, Patsy Ruth (deceased), Jimmy Jack (deceased), Ronnie Greaham, Donnie Greaham, Peggy Mayer and George Greaham.

Billy wants each of you to remember the following things about him and his life: A strong personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, a loving Christian wife of more than 57 years, two awesome kids, seven grandkids, 10 great-grandkids and three more on the way! He had only one wish and heartfelt prayer: That one day soon, each of his family, friends, and all of you will join him in the wonderful place called heaven! I love you all!

The memorial service for Billy will take place on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Southern Baptist Church in Powell. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, please make your contributions to World Hunger via the Southern Baptist Convention. Checks may be made to First Southern Baptist Church 700 E. Madison St. Powell, WY 82435. In the memo please put World Hunger.
