Be a faithful steward

Faithfulness is something we look for in others. We look for it when we are interacting with our coworkers. We look for it when we are finding friends and when we are looking for a spouse and we encourage our children to develop it. Well, this is no different from what the good Lord desires to find in us. In fact, it is directed to us in 1 Corinthians where it declares, “Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” As stewards of the gospel of Christ, we are to be diligent in the duties that Christ has given us and the questions we should ask ourselves are these: What am I required to be faithful to, and am I being faithful?

I could list a multitude of things that we should be faithful to as Christians, such as the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage, the feeding and care for the downtrodden, and I could go on but I won’t. Really we can stop at the major and the rest will fall into place, that major being faithfulness to living a righteous life in love with Jesus Christ. I know this seems simplistic but the Christian life is simple — love Christ and when we do this we will keep his commandments, as his commands are not grievous to those who love him. With that said we are Americans and we want a list, a step-by-step for a better relationship, and a deeper love for Christ. Well, here it is: read your Bible and pray. Communication with God is that simple. In prayer, we talk to God and align our will with his. In reading, we have a response that is sufficient for all things that pertain to life and godliness. So will you be found faithful when the son of man comes? I don’t know but I do know this, you won’t be if you neglect these two simple things.
