The Powell Swim Club descended on the Buffalo City Pool over the July 7-8 weekend, competing in the 2018 Kate Holt Memorial Swim Meet at George Washington Park in Buffalo.
The event is the team’s only outdoor pool meet of the summer. Since it is a highpoint meet, swimmers are encouraged to enter as many events as they can for a shot at a first-, second- or third-place trophy. The PSC contingent consisted of nine swimmers competing in multiple events.
“All of the swimmers did a great job of transitioning their skills from short course yards to long course meters,” said PSC coach Stephanie Diver.
Kaitlin Diver earned second-place highpoint in the 9-10 girls division, highlighted by a pair of first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly and the 400 freestyle. Gabriella Paterson finished in third in highpoint, with two individual third-place finshes and three fourth-place finishes.
Nate Johnston missed a top-three highpoint finish by a single point, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke and two second-place finishes. Joshua Wright finished first in the 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle in the 15 and over division.
“I would like to especially congratulate Kaitlin Diver for earning second-place highpoint in the 9-10 girls, and Gabby Paterson for earning a tie for third place highpoint in the 13-14 girls,” coach Diver said. “At this meet there were no individual awards for each event — the awards were for first-third overall highpoint in each age group and gender.”
Four swimmers are headed to Gillette this weekend to compete at the 2018 Wyoming Summer Long Course Championships from Friday to Sunday. Johnston, Paterson, Wright and Kaitlin Diver are slated to compete.
