(Oct. 2, 1930 - July 27, 2017)
Shirley “Peggy” Marie Hale Buntin died July 27, 2017, at Powell Valley Hospital. She was 86.
Peggy was born Oct. 2, 1930, in Chalk Butte, South Dakota, to Nellie Faye (Gleason) and Charles H. Hale and was the youngest of five children. She described her education as “vast and varied.”
She married Eulan D. Buntin in May 1968, in Powell. Eulan was a building contractor and Peggy was an artist and musician. Peggy’s artwork was creative, unique and one of a kind, just like she was. She dedicated her life to Eulan, their three children, and her love of country Western music.
Peggy started entertaining around the Big Horn Basin with her folks, Mom and Pop Hale. She became a teacher giving fiddle lessons to hundreds of students from ages 3 to 103. She formed her own musical group known as “Peg and the Travelers,” and entertained at nursing homes, assisted living and senior centers across the Big Horn Basin. She was a member of the Rebekas organization.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eulan, brother Tandy and his wife Ann Hale, brother Verne Hale, and three grandchildren.
She is survived by her son Richard (Joyce) Given, of Caldwell, Idaho; daughters Colleen (Clarence) Anderson of Powell and Linda (Kirk) Waggoner of Cody; brother Charles (Marylou) Hale of Butte, Montana; sister ReaEstelene Watts of Buffalo, Wyoming; sister-in-law Glenda Hale; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Peggy’s life will be celebrated Sunday, Aug. 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Cassie’s Supper Club in Cody. Her nieces, Patty, Jan and Alison will begin the session with vocals and instruments. Also joining in will be the Travelers band, Peggy’s students, and her fiddle, guitar and piano family. Bring your instruments. It is her hope that the love of music and her joy of sharing it with others will be carried on by those she taught.
